Guatemalans living in rural areas
Ecofiltro started as a non-profit for the majority of their company history. They then converted Ecofiltro to a social enterprise and followed a hybrid approach where urban sales of filters would serve to finance the distribution of rural filters at an affordable price. They are a Certified B Corporation.
An assessment was done comparing Ecofiltro, bottled water, and boiled water. In this assessment, it was found that using an Ecofiltro is less than 1% of the impact of consuming the same amount of water from plastic bottles and 35% of the impact of boiled water.
In response to COVID-19, ECOFILTRO has donated 670 eco-filters for the elderly living in private homes and for medical front liners in Guatemala. They've concentrated on specifically helping the elderly and healthcare professionals by guaranteeing them 100% clean purified water.
